Beauty Tips

Beer is more than just for drinking and baking soda goes beyond cakes and cookies. Reveal a new you with these kitchen cosmetics.

Beer

Known for its ‘soothing effects’ on the mind, this beverage can have similar effects on your hair. The sugars and proteins in beer strengthen the keratin in your hair, thus giving your locks that much desired bounce and shine. Simply pour it into your hair after shampooing, let it sit for a few minutes and rinse with water.

Oatmeal

Rich with antioxidant properties, oatmeal makes for an excellent exfoliating scrub and a reliable cure for acne. Soak 2-3 teaspoons of dry oatmeal with milk and apply the mixture to your face, gently rubbing it in small circles. Rinse off in cold water. You can add honey, lemon and brown sugar to your oatmeal scrub.

Tea Bags

Before you throw away those used tea bags, you may want to think about using them as an eye mask. The tannins from the tea will help reduce puffiness and dark circles. Just place them on your (closed) eyes and in a few minutes you’ll be feeling as good as new.

Egg White

If all those expensive acne treatments have failed, fret not for the cure might just be in your own fridge. Just apply an even layer of egg white on your face and leave on until dry. Rinse with water to find your skin taut and a significant reduction in any redness or irritation. The vitamin B2 acts as a stress reliever while vitamin B3 increases the blood flow.

Baking Soda

A pinch of baking soda should have you displaying your pearly whites in no time. Mix a teaspoon with some crushed cloves and water to use as a rinse. Or you can add it to an equal amount of salt and brush with it.
